OPAPP, CHED asked to amend
study grant for former rebels

Members of the Comprehensive Local IntegrationProgram have requested the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process and the Commission on Higher Education to amend the OPAPP-CHEd study grant program for former rebels.

Under the program, a stipend of P10,000 is provided to former rebels or their next of kin, each year for their tuition, monthly living and book allowance, provided that the courses taken are in the priority list of the CHEd, and that only one slot can be availed of by the beneficiary.

These courses include information technology, agriculture and related fields,teacher education, science and math, engineering,health sciences, arts and humanities, atmospheric and environmental science.

Teves bares bargaining
tool for one-island region

Rep. Pryde Henry Teves (Neg. Or., 3rd District) said yesterday that if Negrenses unite behind a common presidential candidate in 2016, they will have a bargaining tool for the creation of a one-island region.

Teves was referring to the push for the creation of a Negros Island Region composed of the provinces of Negros Occidental and Oriental, and possibly Siquijor.

Negros Occidental is currently part of Region 6 with regional offices in Iloilo, and Negros Oriental is part of Region 7 with regional offices in Cebu.

Confab on children
with disabilities set

A seminar on “Educating Children with Disabilities: The Realities and Challenges” will be held by the Great Physician Rehabilitation Foundation, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 21-22 at Hotel Palwa at Locsin Street, Dumaguete City, a press release from the group said.

Resource speakers are Ramir Uytico, division superintendent of the Department of Education-Dumaguete; Grace Tampus of the Lodi Unified School District in Lodi, Stockton, California, USA; special education teacher Evita Ngo of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation;

Teresita Ga, special education in-charge of the Department of Education in Region 7; executive directior Ignaas Demyttenaere of the Institute of Inclusive Education, St. Louis University in Baguio City; and principal Cristina Domocol, Bais City Division, the press release also said.
