Mustangs rip Rams for third win

Defending champion West Negros University Mustangs turned back University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos ,70-66, to strengthen their bid for a 15th straight championship in men’s basketball of the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association at the WNU Gym yesterday.

The win allowed the Mustangs to settle for second spot in the team standings with three wins and one loss after University of St. La Salle Stingers beat Visayan Martime Academy-Global, 83-67, to sweep all its assignments in the first round.

Led by rookie Jan Nermal, who delivered 11 points in the fourth quarter, the Mustangs survived another serious threat from the Rams who erased a 10-point deficit, 41-31, middle of third quarter and grabbed the lead, 49-50, going into the final canto.

RJ Stars, St. Jo Alumni
secure lead in bowlfest

NPBC RJ Stars/LJP took an early lead in Class A and St. Joseph Alumni in Class B of the Suppliers Friendship Cup Open and Non-rated Trio Bowling Tournament at the New Top’s Millennium Plaza Alley in Bacolod City.

The NPBC bowlers of Steve Po scored 715 points in three games to top the Class A category, while St Joseph men’s team had 679 to be No.1 in Class B.

St. Joseph women’s team also grabbed the top spot in their category with 645 points.

Lined up with NPBC in the premiere division are Sharp Aquos of Irne Diaz with 698; Mulo Car Aircon Services, 679; Davies II, 670; ESD Solid Strikers, 608, and Silverado, 600.

Negrense athletes ready for
Batang Pinoy Visayas

Bacolod City will send at least 41 athletes who will see action in seven sporting events in the 2013 Batang Pinoy Visayas qualifier set on September 24-28 in Maasin City, Southern Leyte.

The Bacolod City athletes who are scheduled to leave for Maasin on September 23, will compete in table tennis, boxing, athletics, weightlifting, basketball, badminton and swimming.

The Bacoleños will boost the stock of Negrense athletes who are eying a slot in the national championship of the Batang Pinoy late this year.
