RoRo, fast craft operators
eyeing October fare hike

Roll on roll off vessels and fast craft operators in Western Visayas are eyeing a fare hike of P10 to P20 in October, Frank Carbon, manager of Weesam Express fast craft, said yesterday.

Carbon said the operators are set to meet anytime this week on the proposed fare hike so they could present it to the Maritime Industry Authority for approval.

If the fare increase pushes through, the economy class seats of the fast crafts will hit P355 to P360 while those for business class will be P435 to P440. The fare for roll on roll off vessels is also projected to go up to P110. Carbon said the proposed fare increase is not due to the high price of crude oil in Negros Occidental but a normal cycle in the maritime industry every year.
