VMC holds
inter-school art contest

In line with its thrust to promote Negrense Arts and Culture, the Victorias Milling Company Inc. recently launched the Victorias 2013 Inter-School Art Contest, on the theme “Victorias: Bringing Pride to Negros,” a press release from the company said.

This is an activity for the children of Victorias communities to encourage artistic expression and bring out the positive aspects of being part of the Victorias community, the press release said.

The contest is exclusively for primary and secondary students of Don Bosco Technical Institute, St. Mary Mazzarello School, Victorias Milling Elementary School – Victorias, and Victorias Milling Elementary School – Manapla, the press release said.

This will be a platform for young artists to be recognized and their works exhibited. Scholarship prizes are at stake, together with a computer showcase for the school of the grand prize winner.

From among the entries, 18 artworks will be chosen during the semi-final judging on October 28 at the Victorias Golf and Country Club, and will be exhibited later at the Negros Museum.

Six winning artworks will be announced during the Awards Night at the Negros Museum in November and will be featured in VMC’s 2014 calendar and website, the press release added.*

Outstanding Employees

The Negros Occidental provincial government honored this year’s provincial awardees and nominees for service excellence at the 7th staging of the Provincial Awards for Service Excellence at the Capitol Social Hall, Friday, a press release from the Capitol said.

The awardees are Joseph Gedeoni Valencia of the Cadiz District Hospital under the Economic Enterprise Development Department for the Executive Category; Dina Genzola of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist for the Professional Supervisory Category; Dr. Ma. Lalaine Teorima of the Ignacio L. Arroyo Sr. Memorial District Hospital, Joselyn Estolas of Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital and Mary Grace Jave of Cadiz District Hospital for the Professional Non-Supervisory Category;

Rhodora Valenzuela of the Provincial Accounting Office, Stephanie Dela Cruz and Roberto Batalla Jr. both from the Ignacio L. Arroyo Sr. Memorial District Hospital, and Josie Junsay of the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital for the Skilled Category; and Brendo Quindo Tabligan of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist for the Unskilled Category.

The awardees received P10,000 in cash, plaques of recognition and digital cameras and the nominees P2,000 each, the press release said.

Estolas also received the Exemplary Behavior Award and an additional P5,000 cash, a netbook computer and a plaque of recognition.

The nominees were chosen through a series of interviews and assessments from the board of judges composed Kristine Estorque of the Civil Service Commission, Honey Grace Catalan of ABS-CBN, MBCCI president Franklin Carbon, Dr. Felicidad Altalaguire of Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod and DILG Provincial Director Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag.

Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson lauded the awardees for exemplifying excellence in the delivery of basic services.

Other nominees were Noel Lim of the Ignacio Arroyo Sr. Memorial District Hospital, Jesus Villanueva of the Provincial Veterinary Office and Venchito Magalona of General Services Office, the press release added.*
