Man found dead near creek

The body of a man with several gunshot wounds was found near the creek in Purok Riverbank, Barangay Montevista in Bacolod City, at about 4:15 p.m. Saturday.

Station 4 commander, Chief Insp. Adonis Rosales, yesterday identified the fatality as Dominador Baring, 36, of Purok Riverbank in Brgy. Montevista.

Baring was found lying on the ground, bathed in blood from gunshot wounds on his jaw and chest, Rosales said.

Initial investigation disclosed that, before the discovery of the body, residents in the area heard gunshots. The motive for the killing was still unknown as of press time yesterday, Rosales said.

He said they have been gathering leads to identify the suspects, but no evidences were recovered at the crime scene.

Rosales said he requested Dr. Eli Cong, medico legal officer of the Bacolod City Health Office, to conduct an autopsy on the body, to know the cause of his death and the firearm used by the suspects.

The body is now at the Rolling Hills Memorial Chapel, Rosales added.*SGG

3 hurt in accident

Three persons were injured when a pick-up truck, driven by an American national, hit a passenger jeepney being towed by another jeep at about 6:30 a.m. Saturday at the Pahanocoy Bridge 1 in Araneta Street, Bacolod City.

Police Officer 2 Daniel Matias Ballesteros of the Traffic Management Unit yesterday identified those injured as Moises Tabanon, 27, of Brgy. Tangub; Gina Velasco, 22, of Brgy. Pahanocoy, and Sipriano Ambong, 52, of Brgy. Granada, all in Bacolod.

Tabanon and Velasco were brought to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center, and Ambong to the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Regional Hospital, Ballesteros said.

Investigation showed that the Toyota Hilux pick-up truck, driven by Steven John Schier, 32, of Brgy. Pahanocoy, with Velasco as passenger, hit the Hyundai jeepney it was trailing, driven by Tabanon, that was being towed by the jeep of Joerie Magbanua, 30, of Brgy. Sum-ag in Bacolod. All vehicles were heading south of the highway, the TMU said.

Because of the impact, the two jeepneys collided and crashed into the Nissan pick-up truck of Ambong that was parked on the right-outer lane, facing south, Ballesteros said.

Ambong was buying clay pots in the area when he was hit by the glass shards of the window pane of the Hilux. The pile of pots, owned by Cristy Olivia Bico, was also damaged, Ballesteros added.

Meanwhile, a 12-year-old boy was injured when his bicycle was hit by a Hyundai Tucson SUV at 1st Road-Burgos Extension in Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod, at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday, TMU records show.

The minor was brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

Investigation by Police Officer 3 Ben Tajonera showed that the SUV, with plate number FFW-996 driven by Inocentes Lauvena Jr., 56, of Burgos Extension in Bacolod, was executing a left turn at Burgos Extension when it hit the bicycle that was travelling west.*SGG

‘Guns for peace’
distribution today

The National Peace Consciousness Month ends today at the Negros Occidental Multi-purpose Activity Center with the awarding of guns for peace, oath-taking and declaration of Peace Community called “Balik Sibilyan”, a press release from the Capitol said.

Scholarship grants for the children of the victims of the La Castellana ambush-massacre will also be distributed.

Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and 303rd Brigade Philippine Army commander, Col. Jon Aying, will lead the awarding ceremonies and give messages of peace.

BGen. Franciso Patrimonio, commander of 302nd Brigade, will also be at the rites, and Sangguniang Kabataan Federation president Thea Mae Dino will lead the pledge of peace.

The provincial government will also provide medical, dental and veterinary services, and distribute goods and family packs, the press release added.*
