La Salle bags U13 football crown
The University of St. La Salle-IS Under 13 football team showing maturity at a very young age kept their focus on surviving the pressure, and captured the Negros First U13 Football Tournament championship, 3-2, via a penalty shootout against University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos at the Panaad Park and Stadium, Saturday.
Unbeaten in the eliminations and dominant in the semifinals against A. Mabini Elementary School, the La Salle boys were heavily tested in the final match as Luis Clauor of UNO-R scored the first goal three minutes into the game.
Pressed to deliver the equalizer, the La Sallians had their opportunity 11 minutes later as eventual tournament Most Valuable Player Rafael Jose Gonzaga slipped through UNO-R’s defense to tie the game.
| Stingers book 7th straight win; This year’s NOPSSCEA men’s basketball frontrunner University of St. La Salle Stingers registered their seventh straight victory at the expense of Visayan Maritime Academy-Global College, 94-79, in the second round of the eliminations at the West Negros University gym, Saturday. Gunning for their eighth win and a second-time conquest of defending champion WNU Mustangs, the Stingers need to wait until October 6 after their scheduled second round match-up was reset yesterday due to power outage. While the Stingers enjoy the unbeaten label, the Mustangs survived another scary ending Saturday and beat for the second time last year’s runner-up University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Rams, 73-72. |
| LOPTTA players trumph in Emy Rose Dael of Lopue’s Table Tennis Association gifted Bacolod City another gold medal after a dominating performance in girls’ table tennis in the 2013 Batang Pinoy Visayas qualifier in Maasin City. Replicating the feat in the boys’ department was Dael’s teammate John Michael Castro as both player ruled their respective final matches. Dael beat Cebu City’s Jera Mae Saromines in the quarterfinals and Diana Oliverio in the semifinals to arrange a titular showdown with Iloilo Province’s Kimberly Sorongon whom she beat, 3-0, to take the girls’ singles crown. |
