BCAN summer training kicks
off at SJI hardcourt

The 2nd Basketball Coaches Association of Negros Summer Camp opened yesterday at the St. John’s Activity Center with 42 trainees signing up for the first day session, a press release BCAN said.

BCAN president Bobby Tee said they are expecting the number of participants to increase in the coming days.

With a student-coach ratio of 7:1, basketeers as young as 3 years old are given the chance to be trained closely, the press release said.

"Last year's attendance was 140 but even if the attendance this year will not reach or surpass that number, the camp will go on as scheduled," Tee said in the press release.

Among the coaches who reported to the camp yesterday to train the participants were Junjun Gustilo of Trinity Christian School, Dennis Tumayan of West Negros University, Richie Militante of St. John's Institute, Marloni Gonzales of University of St. La Salle and Nene Sibaya.

Supervising the camp is training director Jake Azucena with Rene Cuison, Jojo Banilla and Monmon Ordas assisting him.

At the BCAN summer camp, the young cagers are taught the basic skills of basketball such as ballhandling, dribbling, shooting, conditioning, warm up exercises and team work, the press release added.*
