‘Drivers can’t hike fare’
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Director Romulo Bernardes of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Region 6 reminded drivers yesterday that they cannot collect additional fares without matrices.

Bernardes was reacting to the statement of Sentrong Samahang Tsuper and Operators NegrosSecretary general Jesse Ortega that, with or without the approval of the LTFRB, members of SSTONE will soon start collecting an additional 50 centavos fare.

Ortega had said earlier that they are not satisfied with the reduction of fuel prices.

“What we want is the approval of the 50-centavo provisional fare hike for every first five kilometers, which, until now, has not yet been given a go-signal by theLTFRB”, Ortega said.

Bernardes said drivers found collecting additional fares will be fined P10,000.

He said cancellation of franchises awaits drivers caught collect additional fares more than once.

Bernardes said, so far, they have not received any complaints from commuters but those who have been asked to pay additional fares can file their complaint before the LTFRB.*APN
