The daily yogurt production of Negros Occidental has increased by 150 percent last year compared to 2012, Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said yesterday.
Last year Decena told the DAILY STAR the yogurt production was at 500 cups per day while it was only about 200 cups daily in 2012.
This year, Negros Occidental provincial government is boosting its yogurt-making project further and is aiming to produce at least 1,500 cups of yogurt per day, he said
Decena said yogurt production is being given importance because it is a product of the improved dairy industry of the province.
Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. had said earlier that yogurt-making is one of the growing industries in Negros Occidental.
Marañon said this is evidence of how successful the dairy industry in Negros Occidental is. He said the province is the second to Batangas in terms of dairy production.
Meanwhile, Decena said he has ordered all the paravets in the towns and cities of the province to monitor any animal deaths due to the hot temperature brought by the summer season.
The Provincial government has allotted P3.5 million for the purchase of vaccines and animal seeds since most of the grass will dry up when the temperature gets hotter.
So far, no animal deaths due to the hot weather had been reported yet, Decena said.*APN
