Folk dance contest tonight

The Pana-ad folk dance competition will be held 7 tonight at the Pana-ad Park and Stadium in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City, with entries from 27 local government units in Negros Occidental, a press release from the Capitol said.
The contest is part of the ongoing 21st Panaad sa Negros Festival and will focus on Philippine folk dances provided by the event committee, and divided into Rural and Maria Clara categories, the press release also said.
The contest is open to all age levels, with a minimum of four pairs and a maximum of six. Criteria for the competition are mastery of dance and interpretation of literature - 35 percent, performance - 30 percent, costume and props - 20 percent, and staging - 15 percent.
Winners in the rural category will receive P25,000 for the first prize, P20,000 - second, P15,000 - third, and five consolation prizes of P5,000 each. For the Maria Clara category, the winners will get P30,000, P25,000, P20,000 for the first, second and third placers, respectively, and five P5,000 as consolation prizes, the press release also said.
Special awards in both categories include best in costume, best staging, and best trainer, and winners will get P5,000 in cash prize each.
For the Maria Clara category, participating LGUs are Sagay, Himamaylan, Isabela, Cadiz, Binalbagan, Escalante, Kabankalan, Calatrava, La Carlota City and Bago, and entries in the rural category are Talisay, Pulupandan, Hinigaran, Victorias, Hinoba-an, Pontevedra, San Carlos, Cauayan, Manapla, Toboso, Valladolid, Salvador Benedicto, Murcia, La Castellana, San Enrique, Bacolod and Sipalay, the press release added.*
