Iloilo holds 1st Bike Festival

Almost a thousand bikers from Iloilo and nearby provinces joined the “City Fun Ride", the highlight of the weeklong 1st Iloilo Bike Festival held at the Megaworld's Iloilo Business Park in Mandurriao District, a press release from organizer said.

With Sen. Franklin Drilon, Iloilo officials led by I Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, vice-mayor Joe Espinosa III, and congressman Jerry Treñas with the environmental advocates and Megaworld executives, participated in the 25-kilometer bike ride that started from the Iloilo Business Park to different areas in the city. Environmental advocate and lawyer Antonio Oposa Jr. also attended the opening of the bike festival

"The purpose of this festival is to gather the Ilonggo community and to showcase the 'live-work-play' lifestyle of the P35-billion Iloilo Business Park. Everybody should always have time for fun and we are showing that the Megaworld lifestyle is about living the good life," Jennifer Ann Palmares-Fong, marketing head for Iloilo Business Park, Megaworld, said.

In line with the thrust of reducing the carbon footprint of the community, Megaworld’s townships, like Iloilo Business Park, creates a community that is conducive for walking and biking as it is composed of a LIVE-WORK-PLAY-LEARN components.

Aside from its wide tree-lined sidewalks, the Iloilo Business Park will also feature a network of bike lanes within the township that will allow a safe and secure lane for bikers, the press release said.

"Our fundamental idea of a township is to make everything just within walking distance. But here in Iloilo Business Park, we shall say that we want to make everything just within biking distance. Our objective of a bike-friendly township runs parallel to the visions of Sen. Drilon and Mayor Mabilog. This is the reason why Megaworld fully supports this initiative," Fong said.

The Iloilo Business Park, dubbed as Western Visaya's biggest business and tourism destination, is soon to be the next Information Technology-Business Processing Outsourcing (IT-BPO) hub in Mandurriao district.

The area will have luxury residential condominiums, International brand hotels, BPO office towers, a Megaworld Lifestyle Mall, a 1.1-kilometer Festive Walk commercial strip, open parks, transport hub, and the much-anticipated Iloilo Convention Center, among others, the press release said.

The township is modelled after the company's pioneering 'live-work-play-learn' township lifestyle concept in the Philippines. Among its successful townships include the 17-hectare Eastwood City, known to be the Philippines' first IT park; the 50-hectare McKinley Hill in Bonifacio Global City; the 25-hectare Newport City in Pasay City, home of the famous Resorts World Manila; and the 28.8-hectare The Mactan Newtown in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.*
