Politics eyed in
brgy’e head’s slay

BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Politics and personal grudges are among the motives being explored by the Salvador Benedicto police, in the killing of Kumaliskis barangay chairman Edwin Peruelo on March 30.

Peruelo, 35, was declared dead on arrival at the Santarium Hospital in Bacolod City, police said.

Senior Supt Milko Lirazan, acting provincial police director of Negros Occidental, did not elaborate on details of their investigations, describing the motive as “complicated”.

Lirazan admitted that they are still facing a blank wall on the identity of the gunman. He, however, said their investigations are ongoing.

The killing of a barangay captain in Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, has been blamed by the police either on politics or personal grudges.

Peruelo, a first-term barangay chairman and an ally of Mayor Jose Max Ortiz, succumbed to gunshot wounds in the back.

Three empty shells and two slugs believed to be those of a .45 caliber pistol, were recovered at the crime scene by the Salvador Benedicto police.*GPB
