Former guv doubts
extension of CARP

BY CARLA GOMEZ

Former Negros Occidental Gov. Rafael Coscolluela yesterday said he doubts Congress will extend the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program beyond June this year.

The Lower House is running out of time, he said.

Many economist are saying that because of CARP Philippine agriculture has become the laggard of Asia, and the lives of at least half of if its land reform beneficiaries have not become any better, he said.

Philippine agriculture is now even ranked below Vietnam and Myanmar, he added.

If we want Philippine agriculture to be more competitive we need to change, she said.

The Negros Occidental Sanggunian held a hearing on the proposed Investment Code at the Panaad Park and Stadium yesterday morning, which will put emphasis on the province’s thrust for a green economy.

Negros Island has the potential to become self reliant by producing its own energy, through sugar mills in the province.*CPG
