MARAÑON SAYS
PNoy EO fastest way to
create island-region
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. yesterday said he will ask President Benigno Aquino III to issue an executive order creating a Negros Island region after an island-wide summit sometime in June.

The fastest way to create a region is through an executive order, an act of Congress will take some time, he said.

He said the creation of new regions through an executive order has been done in the past.

Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s Executive Order No. 103, dated May 17, 2002, that divided Region IV (Southern Tagalog) into Region IV-A (CALABARZON) and Region IV-B (MIMAROPA).moremoremore

Sandigan denies Monico’s
motion for review
IT PACKAGE COST CONFIRMED

BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The Sandiganbayan Fourth Division has denied the motion for review or judicial determination of probable cause in the case of the alleged anomalous procurement of overpriced computers for more than P25 million, with the Priority Development Assistance Fund of then congressman Monico Puentevella, and has ordered warrants of arrests to be issued against the accused.

Puentevella, who had already posted bail during his recent arraignment, is not included in the warrants.

The criminal case was filed against Puentevella and Victoriano Tirol, Jr. of the Department of Education, and supplier Jessie Garcia, chairman of Merryland Publishing Corporation, after the Ombudsman found probable cause to indict them for acting in violation of R.A. 3019, or the Anti Graft and Corrupt Practices Act. moremoremore

Cases of rabies found positive
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The Bacolod City Veterinary Office implemented mass vaccination of dogs yesterday in four barangays in Bacolod City where positive cases of rabies were reported.

This was after a stray dog, that tested positive for rabies, attacked six persons in Purok Lampirong, Brgy. 2 Tuesday.

City Health Officer Dr. Salome Biñas yesterday said the five victims, who were brought to the CHO, were administered anti-rabies and anti-tetanus vaccinations, while the other victim was treated at the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital.moremoremore
