The Philippine National Police in Negros Oriental is set to deploy personnel to maintain peace and order, and beef up security for the annual observance of Holy Week.
Police chiefs of the 19 towns and six cities in the province, and other unit commanders, attended a command conference with OIC provincial director, Senior Supt. Mariano Natuel Jr.,
Thursday to discuss plans for the event.
People are expected to flock to the provinces for the Lenten activities starting this weekend, and tourist influx is projected to increase in the next days, Natuel said.
The “Oplan Semana Santa” entails the deployment of police personnel in places where large crowds are expected, such as churches, bus terminals, sea ports and wharves, tourist destinations and big shopping malls, he added.
The police will also provide assistance to control traffic during the processions and similar street activities held during the Holy Week, Natuel said.
In Dumaguete City, the police have been directed to conduct at least five random checkpoints daily, he added.
The PNP Regional Office 7 based in Cebu City has assigned senior police officers as area supervisors in the Central Visayas provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor, to oversee the implementation of “Oplan Semana Santa”.*JFP
