The alleged live-in partner of the wife of a United States Navy man in Bacolod City, was charged with homicide after he tested positive for gun powder nitrates, Thursday afternoon.
The 22-year-old suspect, whose name the police withheld, was released at about 8 a.m. yesterday, on orders of the prosecutor, Insp. Jinky Lou Ramos, the chief of the Women and Children Protection Desk, said yesterday.
Ramos said the suspect, “Ray (not his real name)” and the 32-year-old victim, both tested positive for gun powder nitrates in the paraffin tests conducted on them, Wednesday.
The victim allegedly shot herself in the comfort room of their house in Bacolod, Tuesday, and was declared dead on arrival at the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center, earlier reports said.
“Ray” was detained after the incident since he was present at the crime scene, Ramos said.
Ramos also said there is a possibility that the victim and “Ray” may have grappled for the gun before it fired and hit her chest.
She said police investigators will gather more evidence, to determine the motive in the killing.
A personalized .380 caliber revolver, a slug and a magazine were recovered from the scene of the crime, the police said.
Ramos said the gun is owned by the victim and it is licensed.
The suspect, a commerce graduate of a university in Bacolod, had said earlier that he only heard a gunshot and later saw the victim already lying on the floor. He and the victim did not fight, he added.*SGG
