DOLE launches program
on health, safety at work

The Department of Labor and Employment in Region 6 has launched the Iwas Accident Program that will promote the health and safety of employees while at their work place, Ponciano Ligutom, DOLE Director in Western Visayas , said yesterday.

Under this program, Ligutom said, the public is urged to report to them if they know of any employer who does not follow the proper health and safety standards required by DOLE for employees.

He said the inspectors will verify the report and erring employers will be meted appropriate penalties.

Ligutom admitted that their inspectors sometimes fail to inspect work places especially if there are no complaints.

Informants may send messages to ipd.nwpc@gmail.com or web.nwpc@yahoo.com or may call 527-8014, 527-8011 and 527-8012.

DOLE Under Secretary Ciriaco Lagunzad III, who was at the launching of the program in Iloilo City Friday, lauded the efforts of DOLE Region 6 in creating the program, especially since the agency has now been given the International Organization Standardization seal.

Lagunzad also led the turnover of P5.8 in Emergency Employment salaries and Livelihood program to 1,000 typhoon Yolanda survivors from Western Visayas, including those from Negros Occidental.*APN
