A big, big party

LA VIDA NEGRENSE

About a thousand Zumba enthusiasts trooped to The District, Northpoint, for the biggest party in the city.

Joann Visitacion is the pioneer zumba instructor in the city. Specialist Carolina Arias came all the way from New Zealand just for the party.

Energy was evident when local zins, with Ronald Dolar, Irene Caram, Ephren Hinolan, Edwin Albacite, Judileen Visitacion, Grace Ortiz and Lalaine Guides started the party with tracks of reggaeton, salsa, and cumbia mix with the beat of Pitbull and JLo.

The party went wild when Carolina came out with a toned and sexy body, and everybody followed her every move to the beat.

It was a memorable dinner celebration for Ivana Navarro, daughter of John Caram Navarro and Marijo Divinagracia. Ivana graduated with an entrepreneurship degree from the San Agustin Bacolod, with an average of 95.4, the highest for this school year. The school honored her with the best entrepreneur recognition.

The highest award given came from the Christian Academy of Bacolod, where she graduated valedictorian during her elementary days, and was gold medalist in English and Chinese during high school at the Trinity Christian School.*

The junior zookeeper workshop will be held by the Negros Forests and Ecological Foundation Inc. at its Biodiversity Conservation Center at the provincial lagoon in Bacolod City, 1:30-4:30 p.m. from April 21-25, a press release from NFEFI said.

The workshops are designed for children aged seven and 12 years old who are interested in animals and a great stepping stone for those thinking of pursuing an animal-related profession, the press release also said.

Courses will be run by NFEFI-BCC veterinarian and curator, Dr. Joanne Justo, and volunteers. Classes will be kept small and slots are limited to 15 to make the most of the experience. Participants will receive a Junior Zookeeper certificate, and the opportunity to enroll as a junior zoo volunteer, the press release also said.

Topics will include Philippine biodiversity, the role of zoos and breeding centers, bird, mammal and reptile biology, animal welfare, feeds and feeding behavior and tour guiding. There will also be fun activities and games to make learning entertaining.

NFEFI is one of the leading conservation groups in the country. Its center houses many examples of threatened endemic animals, including the Visayan spotted deer, eagle owls, warty pigs and leopard cats, and a remarkable collection of hornbills, the press release added.*
