The crime clock stopped ticking again yesterday in Negros Occidental with the police and military not recording any crimes or insurgency-related incident during the fight where Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao defeated American Timothy Bradley.
There was only one mauling incident, and the victim was “Bradley,” provincial police director of Negros Occidental, Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, quipped. He also reported that no crime incident took place, while the boxing bout was going on.
Col Jon Aying, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, also said they had not monitored any insurgency-related in the province.
Soldiers and policemen assigned in police stations and headquarters yesterday were glued to their television sets to watch the Pacquiao-Bradley fight.
Maj. Rey Tiongson, 3rd Infantry Division spokesman, said yesterday that Pacquiao continues to be a source of inspiration for soldiers, especially the way he prepares for every fight.
With proper training, plus inspiration and motivation, soldiers will continue to perform well in pursuing the 3IDs mission in Negros and Panay, Tiongson said.
Pacquiao is a Philippine Army reserve officer with the rank of lieutenant colonel to which we was promoted in 2011, AFP chief of staff Gen. Emmanuel Bautista was then the commanding general of the Philippine Army.
Pacquiao entered the Army’s reserve force in April 27, 2006 as a sergeant. He later rose to technical sergeant in December 1 of the same year.
On October 7,2007, he became a master sergeant, the highest rank in the enlisted personnel. Two years later, Pacquiao was given the special rank of Senior Master Sergeant of the 15th Ready Reserve Division in honor of his accomplishment as number one pound-for-pound boxer in the world .
