‘Iwas Aksidente’ kicks off
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Drivers and conductors of Vallacar Transit Inc. availed of free medical consultation during the launching of “Oplan Iwas Aksidente” simultaneously held yesterday at the Ceres North and South Terminals in Bacolod City, and were also made to attend road safety lectures conducted by the Land Transportation Office.

This was in line with the company’s objective to ensure the safety of its passengers and attain “zero road accidents” starting this Holy Week.

Vallacar Transit Inc. chairman Ricardo Yanson said yesterday that the main thrust of their company is the safety of the riding public, their drivers and conductors, which is in line with the program of the LTO and Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board.

He said they launched the program because they want their drivers to be conscious about safety by avoiding road accidents. Road safety is a by word in their company although sometimes accidents cannot just be avoided, he said.

Vallacar Transit Inc. operates about 2,000 Ceres buses in the province and in the country, he said, adding that they have also complied with LTFRB Resolution No. 2014-01 that mandates strict observance nationwide of the 15-year age limit of buses and mini-buses even on units with road worthiness and MVIS certificates.

He said all their 15-year-old buses and mini buses were pulled out and they are completing the documents for their brand-new fleets to give more convenience and ensure the safety of their passengers. Their fleet is now composed of more than 50 percent brand-new units, he said.

He said they have several other brand new units waiting to be registered into passenger units and need additional franchises to answer the demand for more units.

Yanson said they have buses placed under suspension after an accident in Hinigaran but they will be back on the road soon following the lifting of its suspension by the LTFRB.

Meanwhile, Jesidith Marquez Seballos, media relations officer of the Yanson Group of Bus Companies, said they have provided their bus and mini bus drivers and conductors free medical check to ensure that they are physically fit when they are on the road, aside from the annual medical check up they undergo.

She said drivers and conductors in the North and South terminal have availed of complete blood count, blood pressure and eye check up, and fasting blood sugar and were given the chance to watch the Manny Pacquaio and Timothy Bradley fight at the North terminal area yesterday.

Random drug test is also being done regularly,” she said.* CGS
