Hinoba-an fishing
vessel strafed
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A fishing vessel was strafed Saturday night in Brgy. Inayawan, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, and business rivalry is being looked into by police probers as among the possible motives behind it.

Senior Inspector Lowell Garinganao, Cauayan police chief, yesterday said the four suspects, one of them armed with an M-16 armalite rifle, sprayed with bullets a fishing vessel, locally known as “likos”, owned by Ramil Labrador of Brgy. Asia, Hinobaan.

Nobody was seriously hurt, except for a slight injury in the right eye of a crew member of Labrador, that was caused by a wood splinter, Garinganao said.

A slug recovered at the “banyera (tub)” of the fishing vessel, was given to the Cauayan police.

Garinganao said he dispatched police probers to interview Labrador and his crew members in Brgy. Asia, Hinobaan, to dig deeper into the incident.

Quoting testimonies of the victims, Garinganao said the four suspects fled on board a motorized pumpboat, to an unknown direction, under cover of darkness.

The incident took place in the territorial waters of Brgy. Inayawan, Cauayan.*GPB
