Bacolod Regional Trial Court Branch 49 Judge Manuel Cardinal has extended for another 17 days the Temporary Restraining Order he issued last week against the elections in two districts of Central Negros Electric Cooperative.

On Friday, Cardinal issued a three-day TRO against the elections in Districts 4 (Bacolod East) and 5 (Bacolod West) after Jelssen Dumancas and Vicente Tan, candidates from these districts who were disqualified by the election screening committee, sought a preliminary mandatory injunction to stop the polls.

Dumancas is running against Eduard Gasambelo, former CENECO president, while Tan is unopposed.

Retirement hotel
eyed for Mambukal

A Japanese group is interested in building a retirement hotel at the Mambukal Resort in Murcia, Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said yesterday.

They are looking at building it on the 1,700-square meter property where the lodge at the resort owned by the provincial government is located, he said.

They are proposing that the first floor of the building will serve as the retirement hotel, and the second floor will be used as a training center for caregivers to be sent to Japan, he said.

PVO: Prices up for egg, meat

Prices of eggs and meat products in Negros Occidental markets increased last month, records from the Provincial Veterinarian Office showed yesterday.

Renante Decena, Provincial Veterinarian, said prices of eggs went up to P5.50 toP9 from the previous the price range of P5.03 to P6.65, depending on size.

He said local egg producers need to increase the prices to compete with the rates of those imported from Batangas and other areas in Luzon.
