The number 11 most-wanted person of the Bacolod City Police Office was nabbed at his boarding house at Bangga Pari in Purok Kahirup B, Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
A .45 caliber pistol, 13 rounds of ammunition, a hand grenade, two magazines, a big sachet of suspected shabu, and several drugs paraphernalia, were recovered from Maximo Canama, alias “Mok-mok”, 34, of Purok Boulevard in Brgy. 13, Bacolod, police records show.
Police Officer 3 Joshua Barile, team leader of the Regional Intelligence Unit 6, said yesterday that Canama was apprehended on the strength of a warrant of arrest for murder charges, issued by Regional Trial Court, Branch 44 Judge Philadelfa Pagapong-Agraviador, who denied him bail.
Barile said they had tried to arrest Canama previously at his residence in Brgy. 13, but he escaped.
Canama is the suspect in the killing of an ex-convict, identified as Jonathan Cuesta, 46, in Purok Boulevard, Brgy. 13, on January 8, 2014, reports said.
Barile said Canama, who had allegedly been engaging in illegal drugs and gun-for-hire activities, is behind the series of robbery and hold-up incidents in Bacolod.
Canama has also criminal records for theft, illegal possession of gun and ammunition, violation of the anti-fencing and anti-carnapping laws, estafa, and extortion, the police said.
Canama's arrest was a joint operation of the RIU6, Bacolod City Police Office Investigation and Detective Management Unit, and police stations 4 and 7.*SGG
