Kabankalan opens
evacuation center
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

The City of Kabankalan now has its own evacuation center.

Kabankalan City Mayor Isidro Zayco said Saturday that families affected by calamities now have a place where to take refuge.

The P16 million evacuation center was opened Saturday, as the city of Kabankalan marked its 17 th Charter Day.

Zayco said he noted that in time of calamities, the affected families usually evacuated in schools, and this disturbs classes.

He said they will also establish the command center for local disaster team at the facility, which will be equipped with search and rescue equipment, and gadgets for weather monitoring.

The P16 million budget for the project was taken from its calamity fund, with 70 percent earmarked for calamity preparedness.

“It will just be a waste if the money is saved in the bank and not used for projects that can benefit the people,” Zayco said.*GPB
