Three young taekwondo jins from the Bacolod City-based NTU Tigers brought home gold medals from the Milo Little Olympics Visayas Qualifying Tournament held at the Ateneo de Cebu over the weekend.
Jamie Hanna Agaloos, Davon Pecha, and Caroline Dean Espinosa prevailed over their opponents in the championship round to reign in their respective category.
Agaloos, a student of Tangub Christian Academy, won the gold in Group 1 of the gradeschool girls’ division, while Pecha of ETCS I, topped the grade school boys’ Group 2.
Espinosa of St. John’s Institute, reigned in the welterweight division of junior women’s category.
The NTU Tigers, mentored by coach Crystal Pauline Reyes, also captured two silver medals from the tournament courtesy of James Park and Hannah Gwen Flores.
Park of Bacolod Tay Tung High School, settled for silver in grade school boys’ Group 4, while Flores of Trinity Christian School, plucked the silver in the bantamweight division of the junior women’s category.
Completing the nine-medal haul of the NTU Tigers from the tournament were bronze medalists Nel Trisha Serimongan, Stephen Serimongan, Princess Park, and Shaira Isabel Garbanzos.
Nel grabbed the bronze in Group 2 grade school girls, while Stephen placed third in grade school boys’ Group 1. Both are from Talisay South Elementary School.
In junior women’s category, Park of BTTHS, snatched the bronze medal in flyweight division while her NTU Tiger teammate Garbanzos of University of St. La Salle, landed at third place in the welterweight division.*NAB
