Filipino sailors in Portugal have been registering for the 2016 election through the “Akyat Barko” project, Philippine Ambassador to Portugal Philippe Lhuillier, said.

He said he boarded the Queen Elizabeth recently, where 450 Filipino sailors work, and about three weeks ago, 309 of them have already registered.

“It’s amazing that many of them are surprised when given the opportunity to register and vote, and this was tested in the last elections where about 8,000 Filipinos have exercised their right to vote,”Lhuillier, who visited Negros Oriental last week, said.
