Prices of dressed chickens up
The damage caused by Typhoon Glenda on the production of broiler chickens in Luzon has caused the prices of dressed chickens to increase in Negros Occidental, Dr. Renante Decena, provincial veterinarian, said yesterday.
Decena said poultry production in Negros Occidental has been stable since the province raises broiler chickens.
However, there is currently a shortage of broiler chickens in Luzon where production has dropped by 30 percent, Decena said. It is expected that because of the shortage in Luzon, a part of local production will augment the needs there, he added.

No rice hoarding seen in
Neg. Occ., NFA says
The National Food Authority- Negros Occidental does not believe that there is rice hoarding in the province, but is watching out for possibilities of rice diversion, especially in the southern part of Negros.
Hoarding is impossible since the lean months are the best time to unload the rice, and the rice warehouses here are not as big as those in Luzon, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Mindoro and other rice capital, Provincial Manager Procopio Trabajo II told DAILY STAR in an interview yesterday.
He also said that these lean months are the best time for the retailers to unload their supply of rice, so the possibility of hoarding rice is slimmer.
