with PHL borrowing money

Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, Ed Du, said he believes that the Philippines has enough resources to pay its debts in the future, despite a Supreme Court ruling against the use of the President’s Disbursement Acceleration Program funds.

Du was reacting to local public perception of the national government’s borrowing from foreign lenders after the SC declared some provisions of the DAP as unconstitutional.

“It is okay to borrow as long as the money is spent wisely, otherwise, if external debt goes to corruption, then that would be a big problem,” he said.

PRO 7: CV crime rate down 25.5%

The Police Regional Office yesterday reported a 25.5 percent decrease in the crime rate in Central Visayas in the first half of this year, compared to the same period last year, a government press release said.

Supt. Rex Derilo, deputy chief of the Regional Intelligence Division 7, said they recorded only 29,553 crime incidents in the Central Visayas, from January to June this year, compared to 39,649 incidents in the same period in 2013.

He said the figure includes the incidents reported in blotter entry forms in the barangays and police stations.

World Tourism Week,
Buglasan Festival set

The Sidlakang Negros Association of Tourism Officers met recently at the Manhattan Suites in Dumaguete City, to initiate preparations for the World Tourism Week and the Buglasan Festival celebrations.

The World Tourism Week celebration, on the theme “Tourism and Community Development”, to be held September 21-27 in Dumaguete, is a joint venture of the Negros Oriental Provincial Government Tourism Office, Tourism Educators Council of Negros Oriental and Siquijor, Dumaguete City Government Tourism Office, and the SINATO.

The meeting also discussed the Buglasan Festival of Negros Oriental in October, and the ATOP national convention on October 2-4 in Bacolod City.
