A resolution requesting the City Health Office through Mayor Monico Puentevella to conduct sanitary inspection of all food establishments, stalls and food carts in the City of Bacolod is being proposed by Councilor Em Ang.

This is to ensure proper food handling, food safety and sanitation practices and ensure that they comply the necessary business and sanitary permits, the resolution said.

It also said Bacolod City is known for its diverse, unique and delectable cuisine served in numerous restaurants and food establishments, that have become an attraction to tourists and visitors.

Complaints of some food establishments with contaminated food and without the required sanitary and other permits, have been brought to the attention of the Business Permits and Licensing Office, it said.

It said there is a need to ensure that restaurants, food establishments, stalls and food carts observe proper food handling, food safety and sanitation practices, and for food handlers to possess the required health cards.

Ang is also proposing another resolution that is urging the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, telecommunication companies and other utility firms to check low-lying wires and cables hanging in the main roads and streets of Bacolod City and to conduct repair and maintenance of electric posts, cables, wires to ensure public safety.

The resolution said low-lying wires and cables of CENECO, telecommunication companies and other utility firms are seen in the main roads and streets of Bacolod City, andcould undermine the safety of Bacoleñons.

These “spaghetti wires”, a term used to describe the different overhead street wires and cables that appear like tangled pasta, pose danger to passers-by and motorists, and sometimes blamed by the Bureau of Fire Protection as one of the contributing factor of fire incidents in Bacolod City, it said, adding that the onset of the typhoon season increases the risk of electrocution, accidents and other safety hazards.

The resolution said it is imperative for the City Government of Bacolod to require the owners of these cables and wires to fix them or them for the safety and protection of Bacolodños.*CGS
