Farmers training held

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist headed by Igmedio Tabianan conducted a 10- day Training of Trainers for Local Farmer Technicians on Rainfed Rice Areas in Negros Occidental, a press release from OPA said.

The program that started August 4 and will end on August 15 at Forest Park Resort, Brgy Taculing, Bacolod City, is being attended by 25 local farmer technicians from Negros Occidental and Guimaras who are being trained to become Paraprofessionals for the agricultural extension programs of the province, Dina Genzola, OPA Senior Agriculturist, said yesterday.

The training includes updating the agricultural technologist and local farmer technicians on the latest technologies and also in facilitation and communication skills to ensure that technologies developed by researchers will be bridged by the extension workers to local farming communities. The training is being facilitated by Mark Lester Gamboa, from the Department of Agriculture. Other personnel from the OPA who are speakers at the training are Carlito Indencia on Farming System, Arsenio Dela Torre on Characteristics of Rice Varieties, Dina Genzola on Non- Formal Education and Adult Learning, and Alona Abang on Folk Media Presentation. *GRD
