A father and his son were arrested for charges of statutory and incest rape of two minor family members in Barangay Najandig, Zamboanguita town, Negros Oriental at around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

The suspects were arrested by virtue of the warrants issued by Judge Mercedita Sarsaba of the Regional Trial Court Branch 31 in Dumaguete City dated August 5, 2014, special investigator Nick Tagle of the National Bureau of Investigation said.

Tagle said the father, 57, and his son, 30, were each charged with four counts of rape, for allegedly molesting two girls in their family starting in 2011.

The girls, aged 11 and 12 at the time the sexual abuse started about three years ago, were allegedly raped by their older brother and their father at various times, he said.

However, it was only in May this year that the alleged sexual abuses were reported and charges filed against the suspects, he added.

Tagle said it took him and his team of NBI agents, accompanied by local police and civilian armed auxiliaries of the 12th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army assigned at the Najandig detachment, around six hours of trekking on foot to reach the house of the suspects.

He said the suspects did not resist arrest, and are now detained at the Negros Oriental provincial jail.

The mother of the two girls is expected to appear at the NBI office today. The state of the two minor victims was not immediately known to the NBI, Tagle added.*JFP
