Candle making
More barangays in Victorias, EB Magalona, Silay, Talisay and Murcia started livelihood activities this week.
The Office of Third District Rep. Alfredo Benitez in a press release said 75 families from seven communities after undergoing training on candle-making in May have started production of candles for home consumption and as a source of additional income.
There are now candle-making ventures in Barangay 20 in Victorias; Tanza in Silay; Zone 5 in Talisay, Rizal in Silay; and Barangays Cansilayan, Caliban and Minoyan in Murcia.
Bath Soap-making has been ongoing in Barangay 1 in Victorias; Gahit in EB Magalona; E. Lopez in Silay; Zone 1 in Talisay; and in Zone 1, Alegria, Amayco, Blumentritt and Sta. Cruz in Murcia, the press release said
This month, the District Office of Benitez partnered with the Department of Science and Technology in the conduct of a forum with local government and multi-sectoral representatives of the Third District on DOST Programs and Projects.
The forum was led by Provincial Director Allan Francis Daraug of the DOST Negros Occidental Office and presented talks on DOST programs and projects, Food Safety Awareness, Proper Packaging and Mandatory Labeling Requirements, the DOST Scholarship Program, and an Overview of Hydrometeorological Hazards and Warning Systems, the press release said.*

KMC MAG Group has ranked Bacolod
as the third best area outside of Manila
A real estate firm called KMC MAG Group has ranked Bacolod as the third best area outside of Manila for industrial investments in the Philippines, a press release from City Hall said.
The Bonifacio Global City-based estate firm said Bacolod is a prime destination after Cebu and Clark Feeport Zone for national and international Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions, BPO services and foreign investments. The firm also cited several of the city’s potentials, including its proximity to top placer Cebu and its transformation into an ICT hub, the press release said.
It said “The city provides opportunities in various industries such as information technology, agriculture, manufacturing, metalwork, travel services, eco-tourism, and furniture making,” the press release said.
It said Bacolod is “slowly becoming a highly urbanized city” and a flourishing economy due to the rise of communication and utility services, transportation and infrastructure, the press release said.
The top 5 on the list are Sta. Rosa, Laguna and Davao as viable locations and next wave destinations for industrial investments, the press release said.
