Car dealers reminded
of Lemon Law

The Department of Trade and Industry in Negros Occidental started sending copies of the Philippine Lemon Law to car dealers in the province last week, Engiemar Tupas, acting chief of the Business Development Division of DTI, said yesterday.

Tupas said the national DTI did not order the distribution of copies of the law, but they still did so for the proper guidance of car dealers.

He said the new law that safeguards the rights of car buyers, is advantageous since it is unfair to buy millions of pesos worth of cars only to find out later on that it is defective.

Producers join
budget training

The Department of Trade and Industry, and the local government units of Talisay City and Don Salvador Benedicto have started the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting Program among local producers, Romel Amihan, Trade and Industry Development Specialist of DTI- Negros Occidental, said yesterday.

The training and assistance program that started on July 22 is an ongoing resource-based program that aims to utilize the available resources and skills in the area and make them productive, he said. The selection of the participants depends on the endorsement of the respective LGUs, he also said.

No rise in basic goods’ prices
seen in ‘ber’ months, DTI says

Provincial Director Rebecca Rascon of the Department of Trade and Industry-Negros Occidental yesterday said that she does not anticipate prices of basic commodities to go up, when the “ber” months come.

She said there is a rush in the buying behavior of consumers since these months are when several holidays are celebrated, like All Saints Day in November and Christmas in December, but it does not follow that prices will go up.

Rascon added that what usually causes prices to go up is the lack of supply, but, based on their close monitoring, it is not yet happening. She also said that since the holiday season is anticipated by retailers, it is expected that supply has been stored months ahead, so there is basically enough, as in the case of Noche Buena items.
