FVR saddened by PHL slide
in UN human dev't ranking
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Philippines has gone down 40 slots and ranked 117 th out of 185 countries in human development, according to the 2014 report of the United Nations.

The report saddens former President Fidel Ramos, who is the honorary president of the Human Resource Development Network Philippine chapter.

He said this is not really where we belong, in the “kulelat” position, while tiny Pacific island nations like Fiji, Samoa are doing better, and the most disgraceful is that Samoa is better and is ranked No. 60 with only 300,000 people, one half of whom are overseas Filipino workers.

Administrative and criminal complaints were filed by Taclobo barangay captain Gregorio Suasin Jr. against kagawad Danilo Valino before the Ombudsman for alleged violation of Section 3 of Republic Act 3019, or the Anti-graft and Corrupt Practices Act..

The book, "Glimpses of Missionaries and Fraternal Workers at Silliman University, 1901-1998", was launched at the Udarbe Memory Chapel of the school in Dumaguete City, recently, a press release from the SU said.

It is authored by 1996 Outstanding Sillimanian in Chemistry, Ligaya Magbanua Simpkins, and is a product of months of comprehensive research, both in Silliman and the United States, the press release also said.

SU president, Dr. Ben Malayang III, describes the book as a rich resource about Silliman history that honors singularly the many Presbyterian missionaries and fraternal workers in Silliman University.
