MANILA -- Business confidence in the Philippines in the third quarter of 2014 remains positive despite additional concerns among the business sector, a Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas survey shows.
The result of the BSP business expectation survey (BES) for the third quarter of the year showed that the index slipped to 34.4 percent from quarter-ago’s 50.7 percent.
This sentiment is similar to that of the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong, BSP Department of Economic Statistics Director Rosabel Guerrero said in a media briefing yesterday.

Barter trade study urged
The Bacolod Sangguniang Panglungsod is asking Mayor Monico Puentevella to enjoin/direct the local markets committee to study the possibility of establishing a barter trade center in the city in a resolution authored by Councilor Alex Paglumotan.
It is now the thrust of the incumbent administration to protect the common welfare of the taxpaying public, institute safety among pedestrians, and by such display of a political will to free the sidewalks of illegal vending, and the re-opening of the Vendors Plaza and Jeepney Terminal, Paglumotan said.
