Mayor inks tax law
amid calls for review

Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella announced during a press conference yesterday that he has already signed the real property tax ordinance.

The Chamber of Real Estate and Builders’ Associations and the Subdivision and Housing Developers Association, had called on Puentevella, in a joint statement to use his veto powers to  prevent what they called the  “oppressive” real property tax ordinance from becoming a law.

Eduardo Alunan, a member of national board of SHDA, yesterday said they are still asking the mayor for  a review of the ordinance.moremoremore

Bacolod readies for APEC

Bacolod City will be one of the nine cities to host a conference of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit next year, Bacolod Mayor Monico Puentevella said yesterday.

APEC is a forum for 21 Pacific Rim member economies that seeks to promote free trade and economic cooperation throughout the Asia-Pacific region. It has adopted the theme “Building Inclusive Economy, Building a Better World.”

Puentevella said Bacolod will host the “open data initiative” meeting on April 16 and 17, 2015, while Manila got the “women’s conference,” which he wanted held in the city.

Bishop ordains two deacons,
admits need for more priests

The Diocese of Dumaguete has added to its clergy, with the ordination of two seminarians yesterday.

The new deacons are Rev. Ryan Deposoy and Rev. Romolito Reyes, both with Bachelor in Sacred Theology degrees from the University of Sto. Tomas.

The concelebrated mass was held at the St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral in Dumaguete City with about 50 priests. moremoremore
