Dumaguete as ‘Ruby’ looms

Governor Roel Degamo yesterday declared a suspension of classes in the whole of Negros Oriental today, with the looming super-typhoon Ruby that had already entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
The governor issued Executive Order No. 14-22 declaring the suspension of classes in levels in government and private schools, colleges and universities, to allow students and teachers to return to their homes and be safe from the storm.
With “Ruby” already having entered the country’s area of responsibility and posing imminent danger to lives and property, it is necessary to give people ample time to prepare for its possible onslaught, Degamo said in his EO.

NGCP starts The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines yesterday began implementing its manual load dropping for Visayas grid users to protect the grid and prevent overloading on the 230-kilovolt Marshalling-Malitbog Line No. 2. Line No. 1 is on shutdown to allow the transfer of conductors (wires) from temporary structures to the new permanent towers from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. yesterday to put in place a stronger line, with the coming typhoon Ruby, Michelle Visera of the NGCP Visayas said in a text media advisory yesterday. NGCP is the country’s transmission company that provides power to the different distribution utilities, to include the Visayas grid. |

Man shot dead Two men on a motorcycle shot a man dead in front of the City District Jail in Barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City, Tuesday, police said yesterday. Palmer Ho Solon, 42, of Barangay Daro in Dumaguete, was shot in various parts of his body, and was rushed to the Holy Child Hospital by responding policemen but died a few minutes later. Initial investigation shows that Solon parked his dark blue Toyota Hilux near the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Bajumpandan, and was alighting from it when two men on a motorcycle opened fired at him. |
