No. 1 AACI Transport and No. 3 JSY Countertrade will vie for the 35 & Below championship of the FIl-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. 2nd Conference Inter-Company Basketball Tournament at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.
AACI Transport ousted No. 4 Jast Enterprises, 80-63, while JSY Countertrade upset second seed AACI Trading, 76-67, in the semifinals.
JSY Countertrade Jappy Cuaycong dropped 16 points as he single-handedly outscored AACI Trading in the opening quarter, 23-13. Joel Masadia picked up 7 points for Trading.
Arnol Laureño tried to give energy to AACI Trading with his lowpost incursions but Countertrade responded with Arvin Chua’s three triples and 6 points from Ervin Tan as Countertrade extended the lead at halftime, 48-31.
Keith Banzon scored 7 points to lead a balanced offense as Trading cut the deficit to 64-51. RJ Iligan two triples and Tan’s 6 points kept the lead at double digit for Countertrade.
Laureño scored 7 points with support from Yan Yan Dy and Danny Boy to lead a last ditch rally but JSY Countertrade, despite producing their lowest quarter output, held on to the lead and seal the finals slot.
Cuaycong paced Countertrade with 22 points, Arvin Chua and Ervin Tan knocked down 12 points each, RJ Iligan had 11 points, Bren Tajonera shot 6, and Peter Paul Ortaliz with 4 points.
Trading was led by Laureño with 18 points while Uy added 12, and Masadia contributed 11 points.
Meanwhile, top seeded AACI Transport was expected to easily coast past a five-man Jast Enterprises, but the latter relied on their outside shooters to give Transport a hard time in the first three quarters.
Jast had an 18-14 opening quarter lead but tut Transport immediately moved ahead in the second canto without breaking a sweat as they were given 10 additional points due to player difference.
Robbie Jalando-on and Coo combined for 15 points in the third quarter to give Transport some breathing room at 63-58 as they encountered continued challenge from Jast.
Transport finally had an antidote to the outside shooting of Jast as they limited them to five quarter points while pulling away behind the inside points of Sibug.
Sibug propelled Transport with 22 points backstopped by Jalando-on with 18, Coo tallied 17 points, DK Equipaje and Pao Pao Lim with 6 points.
Lopingco finished with 34 points, Tan added 21, and Clarence Quingco had 6 points.*
