Christmas gifts

Rolly Espina Well, one may call it a Merry Christmas gift for Bacolod Mayor Puentevella and the Bacolod folk. The first was something that to a certain extent will ease the problem with the Bacolod City Water District and the second, the more future projects for the city.

Of course, one can just say that the ouster of Marichi Ramos from the Bacolod City Water District board of directors, certainly pulled a thorn from the side of Puentevella.

The court also upheld Vice Mayor Ramiro Garcia who asked the court last August 20 to declare him as the person entitled to be declared the legal person to hold and exercise the office of member of the Board of Directors of the Baciwa.

Ramiro, incidentally, is the son of the former Baciwa chair, Ramiro Garcia Sr. The legal counsel of Ramos claimed that she still has the right to appeal the court’s order.

There are a lot more moves the lawyer may resort to postpone the court’s order. But the fact that the entire drama of the Baciwa Board virtually ended and the travails of the union, perhaps Baciwa may now move forward again, said Mayor Puentevella.

In December 31, the remaining members of the old Baciwa board, will vacate their positions. And Mayor Puentevella said he will choose among three names the one he will appoint as fourth member of the board of directors.

The more dramatic news was the approval of the City Development Council of the request by Movie World to allow its development of the 34-hectare property of the former Bacolod Murcia Milling Company in Bacolod.

Actually, this has been the major issue against Trade and Industry Secretary and DILG Secretary Manuel Roxas who was blamed by locals for failing to do something about the BMMC Talisay, Silay and Ma-ao Sugar Central as possible sites for development.

Monico was all glowing when he reported the result of the meeting of the city development board and how it approved one of the biggest urban development projects of the city.

The illegal dwellers of the area had already received their notices, indicating that Movie World, which also handled the development of Iloilo City’s major project indicate that work on the project may start soon in the next year.

Another project which glades the heart of Puentevella yesterday was the approval by the city development board of the bridge that will link Abada Escay to Vista Alegre which means therefore that there will no longer be need for the vehicles to pass through the other areas of the city.

In short, it also helps declog Bacolod’s city streets. And ease traffic.*
