BY SHIELA GELERA

An American national lost about half a million pesos to his Filipino male chatmate, allegedly residing in Bacolod, the police said.

The victim, 54, of United States of America, whose name the police withheld, alleged that he had sent $10,000 US  to his chatmate, a certain Danica Torres, who had been his textmate for six months, Senior Insp. Jovil Sedel, Station 7 commander, said yesterday.

The suspect  transacted  the victim over the internet to put up a business, and the latter sent the money to a certain individual, through two banks in Bacolod, Sedel said.

The police traced  the suspect  as a  resident  of Barangay Alijis in Bacolod, but they are still validating the information, Sedel said.

The incident was  reported to Police Station 7, only on Thursday, Sedel said.

He said the suspect, if properly identified, and the complainant has evidences against him, may face charges for estafa or swindling.*SGG
