Bacolod City public school under the banner of Area VII snatched five more gold medals in the second day of competition, and started to pull away in the medal count of the 2014 Negros Occidental Provincial Meet at the Panaad Park and Stadiun in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City.
Area VII grabbed three out of the four medals offered in 400-meter hurdles yesterday, reigned in secondary girls’ triple jump, and topped the secondary girls’ 3,000-meter run to collect 10 gold medals in athletics after two days of competition.
Palarong Pambansa campaigner and 2013 Batang Pinoy bemedalled athlete, Alexis Soqueño, won his second gold medal for Area VII yesterday as he lorded the secondary boys’ 400-meter hurdle with a time of 56.63 seconds.
Soqueño was three seconds faster than silver medalist Rodolf Dave Orbita of Area IV, who finished the event at 59.81 seconds while Quin Aldrich Canapit of Area V landed at third place with his 1:01.41 time.
Replicating the feat in the distaff side was Area VII’s Bernalyn Bejoy, whose 1:08.19 time allowed her to snatch the gold as Jesse Mae Jarder of Area III registered 1:08.23 and Ann Magdalene Tubal of Area IV at 1:11.12.
It was the same result for Area VII in elementary girls’ 400-meter hurdles as Jennifer Hudierez beat to the finish line Emma Jean Sevilla of Area IV for the gold while Rhea Broa of Area II took the bronze.
The Bacolod City athletes reigned in secondary girls’ triple jump as Romerose Villanueva leapt to a distance of 11.04 meters to win the gold as Ailyn Tumbali of Area IV settled for silver with her 10.94m mark and Meycee Magdangal of Area I took the bronze with 10.73 meters.
Cesar Fernandez of Area II foiled Area VII’s attempt to sweep the secondary competition in triple jump with his 13.20m leap which earned him the gold and left Adrian Mapalo to pick up the silver with his 12.76m performance. Fernandez’ teammate Ireneo Carillo won the bronze for his 12.35m marker.
Mary Grace Lallen, meanwhile, delivered the 10th gold medal for Area VII in 3,000 meter-run as she finished the race after 11 minutes and 28.34 seconds to outpace Jeraldine Hulleza (11:59.44) of Area V and Rica Mae Marfil (12:20.60) of Area IV.
In discus throw, Jacent Criz Necesario of Area II won the gold while Julius Cantonao of Area I settled for silver and Alvin Bale of Area VII, the bronze. As of press deadline, Franz Gela Bintad of Area I is leading in distaff side of the event.
In elementary baseball, Area IV beat Area I, 13-1, Area VI turned back Area V, 6-4, then demolished Area VII, 13-6, and Area III blaned Area IV, 10-0.
Results in elementary volleyball showed Area 3 prevailing over Area I0 in girls’ department, while Area VII beat Area IV, Area V edged Area II, and Area I winning against Area X.*NAB
