Sugarcane act cleared
with executive depts
BY CARLA GOMEZ
Senator Cynthia Villar and Rep. Alfredo Abelardo Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3 rd District) Saturday said they are confident President Benigno Aquino will sign the proposed Sugarcane Industry Development Act of 2014, which they both authored, into law by the first quarter of 2015.
“We have technically pre-cleared it with the executive departments, hopefully they will not have any objection to the final form of the sugarcane bill...I see smooth sailing for it,” Benitez said.
“Hopefully the president will sign it, we already discussed it, I don't see any reason why he will not sign” she said.

The Dumaguete City government has an underestimated income of more than P31 million, apart from the projected savings of around P5-6 million, based on the report of the Finance Committee, Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria said.
This is to support an earlier pronouncement that the city is liquid financially, contrary to claims that it is bankrupt. This means the city did very well in the collection of local revenues in 2014, in spite of the challenges and strict regulations of the Commission on Audit.
The Finance Committee had earlier reported that the city has an underestimated income of P13 million, and Sagarbarria said that, based on his personal calculation, it will increase to not less than P20 million by the end of 2014.
