An ordinance establishing uniform policies and guidelines in giving assistance to individuals in crisis situation in Negros Oriental was proposed by Board Member Liland Estacion, chairman of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Health, recently.
Estacion said the ordinance intends to institutionalize the emergency assistance program to provide genuine aid and relief to indigent constituents.
Estacion and co-authors, BMs Peve Ligan and Lyde Lim, said there are around 800 indigent residents who seek financial assistance of about P900,000 each month. She said the proposed measure simplifies the administrative procedure required to avail of the assistance.
The financial assistance, like transportation, medical, and burial, will be given to individuals or to their kin, depending on the assessment of the need and the social worker's recommendations.
The amount of assistance can be between P3,000 to P25,000 based on the severity of need, subject to availability of funds and approved by the governor or his authorized representative.*RG
