Cop detained for
civilian's death
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A police officer is now in jail, after allegedly shooting and killing a civilian in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, on Christmas Day.

Aside from the shooting incident, Senior Supt. Milko Lirazan, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, said yesterday they have not recorded any incident of firecrackers explosion, or indiscriminate firing, that caused injuries in the province.

Senior Police Officer 1 Anthony Alipo-on, a member of the Ilog Police Station, surrendered to the police and turned over his 9mm pistol on Dec. 25, after he allegedly shot a certain Leonel Gaudia, 21, who hit him in the head with a beer bottle at Vallega Street in Brgy. 2 poblacion, Himamaylan City.

Gaudia, who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, was declared dead on arrival at the Himamaylan District Hospital, police investigations showed.

Lirazan said Alipo-on is now facing both criminal and administrative charges. As to his claims of self-defense, Alipo-on will have to prove that in court, he said.

Investigations of the Himamaylan police also showed that Alipo-on tried to pacify Gaudia, who was under the influence of liquor, after the victim kicked a trash can in the place.

Gaudia, however, hit Alipo-on with a bottle of beer in the head, which prompted the police officer to shoot him with his 9mm Glock pistol, in the chest, left shoulder, and left arm.

Six empty shells were recovered from the crime scene by the Himamaylan police.*GPB
