Magdalo Party-list Rep. Gary Alejano and Bacolod Rep. Evelio Leonardia led the inauguration rites of the P7-million hall of Brgy. Felisa in Bacolod Friday.
Brgy. Felisa barangay captain Mona Dia Jardin said the edifice will be permanently called the “Felisa Government Center or, FGC,” pursuant to Resolution No.14-116 that was approved by the barangay council on Nov. 1, 2014, a press release from Leonardia's office said yesterday.
It was funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways as facilitated by Alejano and Leonardia.
The FGC sits on the former location of the old barangay hall, with a floor area of 460 square meters which is part of the 10-hectare property donated by the Montilla-Veraguth family.
"The FGC is one of the most beautiful barangay halls I've seen," Leonardia said, in describing the edifice. The FGC is a replica of the Bacolod Government Center, built under the administration of Leonardia in 2008.
The former Bacolod mayor said that inaugurating the FGC brought back memories of the BGC inauguration on August 3, 2008.
Alejano said the FGC now becomes a “symbol of Brgy. Felisa,” a concrete one that will inspire good governance” in the barangay.
In her message, Jardin thanked Alejano and Leonardia for facilitating the funding of the FGC and for being the instruments in realizing their long-time dream of having a bigger and more beautiful barangay hall.
“To all Felisanhons, this is our new home,” she said.
After the ribbon-cutting ceremonies, Jardin toured the officials and guests inside the FGC that houses the offices of barangay officials, as well as livelihood center, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, tanods, disaster risk reduction and management, and violence against women.
Construction of the FGC started in June this year, and the project was completed last month, Jardin said.
She said the government center features modern facilities and corporate style ambience. "We're bringing urban conveniences to a rural barangay," she added. She also lauded the sense of community of her constituents. The residents helped in making tables and chairs, made of trees in the barangay for FGC, she said.
They also painted the hall and donated equipment and utensils, FGC, she added.*
