STORM SURGES WARNED

Hundreds of travellers were stranded in Negros Occidental when all sea travel out of the province were cancelled starting 6 a.m. yesterday as Tropical Storm “Basyang” approached.

As of 11 last night the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said public storm signal No. 2 remained over Negros Occidental and Oriental, and 23 other areas in the Visayas, Mindanao and Luzon.

Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm signal 1 and 2 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides, PAG-ASA said.

3 killed in accidents

Three persons died in two vehicular accidents in the cities of Bacolod and Talisay, Thursday and yesterday.

A 95-year-old woman was killed when a truck loaded with motorcycles hit her in front of a shipping company cargo yard at San Juan Street, Purok Nami-Nami in Brgy. Banago, Bacolod City, at about 2:50 p.m. yesterday.

Rosalia Sanchez, of Brgy. Banago, had no signs of life when the rescuers arrived, Senior Police Officer 1 Xavier Rama, Traffic Management Unit duty investigator, said.moremoremore

‘BacoLaodiat a
grand reunion'

Members of the Filipino-Chinese community in Bacolod City gathered last night at the Bacolod Pavillon Resort Hotel at the Reclamation Area for a “Spring Festival Dinner” in celebration of the Chinese New Year.

Nine groups also performed lantern dances at the North Capitol Road witnessed by a crowd of about 3,000 last night.

Fred Barcelona, former Bacolaodiat Festival chairman and president of the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said there were about 32 Chinese organizations in Bacolod back in 2006 and this has grown to about 50.moremoremore
