Anti-indecency
body reorg set
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The Anti-Indecency Board of Dumaguete City is strengthening its campaign this year, and reviewing the composition of its members, several of whom have resigned, or were reassigned.

AIB chair Phoebe Tan said they had to lie low in the past months after a technical assistant was transferred. The reorganization will be in consultation with the City Legal Office and City Administrator William Ablong, who authored the ordinance for the creation of the AIBs in 2005, when he was vice mayor.

The ordinance calls for the creation of an AIB after the “Dumaguete Scandal” that involved the circulation of videos showing couples from Dumaguete engaged in sexual activities.

The AIB has regularly conducted inspections of karaoke and videoke bars, hotels, motels, Internet cafés, massage clinics, and video rental shops to ensure that lewd and pornographic materials and activities are not sold or shown in them, Tan said.

The AIB was scheduled to inspect various establishments yesterday in Dumaguete as an orientation for new members and a refresher for old ones.*JFP
