Alternate routes eyed in
P100M road project
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Negros Oriental officials yesterday were hopeful that the construction of the multi-million-peso diversionary road to connect Bacong, Dumaguete City and Sibulan will push through with minimal hitches this year.

The possible alternate routes to ensure that snags do not delay the project were discussed in a meeting among Dumaguete Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, Sibulan Mayor Emmanuel Diputado, Ricardo Duran of the Department of Public Works and Highways 2 nd Engineering District, and Rep. George Arnaiz (Neg. Or., 2 nd District).

They discussed the ongoing construction, and the acquisition of the road right-of-way from residents, whose properties are within the project area. Some are reportedly opposing the project while others were selling portions of their property at very high costs.

Act vs. spate of killings,
priest dares Negrenses
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW & JUANCHO GALLARDE

Negrenses, especially members of the laity, were challenged to denounce and act against the recent spate of killings in Dumaguete City and other parts of Negros Oriental.

Msgr. Julius Heruela, rector of the St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish, issued the challenge in the masses he offered in honor of Sto. Niño, the Holy Infant Jesus, of which many fiestas were held in Dumaguete, last month.

He lamented that while people continue to profess their faith and claim to be devotees of the Child Jesus, their actions run counter, and they seem indifferent to what is happening in society today..

RTWPB-CV assures fair
solution to wage hike plea

An official of the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board in Central Visayas yesterday said the office will come up with a win-win solution for both the labor and management sectors on the various wage hike petitions.

RTWPB chair Chona Mantilla said they will look into all the evidences and justifications to ensure a fair solution but the seven-member board has yet to meet and decide when to start the deliberation.

The management and labor sectors have presented their sentiments in a recent public hearing.
