Bacolod City set to receive
sports equipment from PSC

The Philippine Sports Commission is set to donate various sports equipment to Bacolod City, with chairman Ricardo Garcia and Mayor Monico Puentevella expected to sign a Deed of Donation between the two parties, a press release from City Hall said.

Garcia said the PSC will donate basketball boards and a boxing ring to the city and the contract is being reviewed by the City Legal Office.

City legal officer Sarah Villamor said her office poses no objection to such a contract, although she recommends that authority to enter into and sign the documents must be secured first by Puentevella from the Sangguniang Panlungsod, the press release said.

Puentevella, meanwhile, said that the donation will further expand the city's sports tourism and development advocacy.

He added that the tie up with the PSC WILL open the opportunity for the youth to develop their skills and will encourage the out-of-school youth to engage in a development program that will give them a chance to go back to school under a sports scholarship.

With Bacolod hosting the 2013 Batang Pinoy National Finals, the press release said Puentevella, sees the emergence of new and raw talents as the program serves as one of the athletes' stepping stones towards donning the national colors.*
