3 killed in accidents
BY SHIELA GELERA

Three persons died in two vehicular accidents in the cities of Bacolod and Talisay, Thursday and yesterday.

A 95-year-old woman was killed when a truck loaded with motorcycles hit her in front of a shipping company cargo yard at San Juan Street, Purok Nami-Nami in Brgy. Banago, Bacolod City, at about 2:50 p.m. yesterday.

Rosalia Sanchez, of Brgy. Banago, had no signs of life when the rescuers arrived, Senior Police Officer 1 Xavier Rama, Traffic Management Unit duty investigator, said.

Investigation showed that the Isuzu Fuso truck with plate number GTE 256, hit Sanchez who was crossing the street.

Truck driver Archel Torres, 29, of Dumaguete in Negros Oriental, told the DAILY STAR she saw Sanchez crossing so he honked to warn her, but she continued walking without looking at them. He said he stepped on the brakes but it was too late.

Torres said they were delivering the motorcycles to Iloilo City, but the Philippine Coast Guard cancelled all trips because of foul weather so they decided to return to their office in Brgy. Sum-ag in the city.

The daughter of Sanchez, Norma, 60, said her mother had a pack of boiled sweet potatoes with her, which she was bringing home to her grandchildren, when the accident happened.

Sanchez had been working in an eatery where she earned P50 a day, and sometimes, the owner would give her rice and viand, her daughter said.

In Talisay City, two friends on a motorcycle died in a head-on collision with a mini van in Brgy. Efigenio Lizares, at about 7:55 p.m. Thursday, Chief Insp. Joeresty Coronica, city police chief said yesterday.

Bryan Davis, 29, and Roger Secapero, 27, both of Dos Hermanas in the city, were declared dead on arrival at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod at about 8:56 p.m., Coronica said.

Traffic investigation showed that the motorcycle with no plate number, driven by Davis with Secapero as back-rider, collided with the Toyota Tamaraw FX mini van.

Witnesses said the motorcycle, whose riders were not wearing helmets, were on the opposite lane, Coronica said.

Sheldon Clay, 64, and a British missionary was the driver of the minivan with plate number FVP897. He was released after the reglamentary period for his detention lapsed and no charges had been filed against him.*SGG
